Mātauranga Māori and Predator Control
Thank you, Te Karere, for coming to the motu to capture the visit of Rawiri Walsh from The Capital Kiwi Project, along with Tūmai Cassidy and Oliver Dawson from Te Nohoaka o Tukiauau Wetlands (Sinclair Wetlands). These experts shared their knowledge of predator control through a Mātauranga Māori lens, which included an inspiring presentation and a practical field day at Rangihoua. TKOW staff and volunteers learned firsthand how Mātauranga Māori offers a holistic approach to conservation, considering the interconnectedness of land, sea, and people.
The visit continued with a wānanga at Piritahi Marae, followed by a trip to Whakanewha Regional Park to witness the positive impact of conservation efforts. Special thanks to Foundation North for supporting this experience.
