About the social research team
Who is undertaking this research?
The research team is made up of four social outcomes practitioners from Beca. Beca is an engineering and environmental consulting firm, which provides social research and social impact assessments to support many large projects around the country.
The social research team are all experienced in engaging and consulting with communities and stakeholders in a range of ways including focus groups, interviews and surveys, and are passionate about working with communities to deliver positive social outcomes.

Amelia Linzey - Project reviewer/lead
Master of Science (1st Class Hons) – Geography, Bachelor of Science (Geography), IAP2 Certification, NZTA Iwi Consultation
Amelia is providing a review and oversight role on the project.
She is an experienced social research practitioner and planner with over 25 years experience. Amelia provides technical direction on a number of major projects at Beca and has extensive experience in leading social impact assessments, providing evidence on social impacts in resource consent hearings, planning and leading community consultation, leading mana whenua engagement and facilitating community and stakeholder meetings. Amelia is a member of the International Association of Public Participation, which is an international body for best practice community engagement and consultation.
Jo Healy - Project Lead
Bachelor of Science (Hons) – Geography and Environmental Science, Bachelor of Health Sciences – Occupational Therapy, IAP2 Certification
Jo is leading the project.
She has worked in the health and social sector for over 20 years. For the last 5 years she has worked on large social research reports and social impact assessments for government and local agencies both in New Zealand and internationally. Her work at Beca has included social research, demographic analysis, equity assessments, assessing social impacts of change, stakeholder consultation and community engagement. Jo is a member of the International Association for Impact Assessment and the International Association for Public Participation.
Kelly Bingham - Project Researcher
Master of Science (1st Class Hons) – Environmental Management, Bachelor of Science (1st Class Hons) – Geography and Environmental Science, IAP2 Certification, Level 3 Certificate in Tikanga – Te Wananga o Aotearoa
Kelly will be undertaking field and desktop research, analysis and reporting.
Kelly is a social outcomes specialist and communications and engagement advisor. She has been involved in a wide range of projects including social impact assessments, mana whenua engagement, social research, stakeholder engagement and running large community consultation events. Kelly is also a member of the International Association for Public Participation and has a background in environmental management.
Nola Smart Project Researcher
Bachelor of Urban Planning (1st Class Hons)
Nola will be undertaking project support, field and desktop research, analysis and reporting.
Nola is a social outcomes specialist and sustainability advisor. She has worked on social impact assessments, social safeguards assessments and research pieces both in New Zealand and internationally. Nola also provides advice to clients on how to embed sustainability outcomes into projects and across their businesses.
