Elaine Murphy and John Dowding coming to Waiheke Island
Te Korowai o Waiheke is pleased to be hosting Elaine Murphy and John Dowding on Wednesday 17th of March from 4 to 6pm at the Waiheke Resources Trust. Please join us to listen to their informative presentations and enjoy a chance to ask questions over light refreshments.
Elaine will cover recent research on stoat control, the difference between eradication and control, and methods that can be used to eradicate stoats.
John will focus on native birds that stoats like to target and why it is so important to protect them. He will talk about the recent shore plover kills on Motutapu Island and susceptible shorebirds on Waiheke Island.
Elaine Murphy - Principal Scientist, Department of Conservation (DOC) and Science Advisor to Zero Invasive Predators (ZIP). Her research focuses on improving control methods for invasive mammals and involves toxicology, ecology, island biosecurity & genetics.
John Dowding - DM Consultants; undertakes research on New Zealand wildlife and uses the results of this and related research to provide science-based advice to conservation managers and others.
