Second Stoat Catch Milestone!
The stoat catch tally has now hit 32!
The team are excited to have exceeded the second milestone of 30 stoats as we head into spring. in addition to these stoats the trap network has also caught 498 rodents and 118 hedgehogs in the last five months. All of these catches are good news for our Waiheke Island wildlife!
Stoat sightings on the island have become more frequent in spring, which is really helpful to build a picture of stoat activity across the island. The most recent stoat sighting included one carrying a bird the size of a pine cone it its mouth! Given we have an extensive stoat trap network with 1500 traps out across the island, we will not necessarily react to each sighting with adding additional traps, however the information really helps to inform the programme, so we encourage anyone who sees a stoat to report it on 0800 BIRDSONG or info@tekorowaiowaiheke as a way of contributing to the shared island eradication goal.
