Te Korowai o Waiheke is looking for a Social Researcher!
Te Korowai o Waiheke is a charitable trust working towards a predator free Waiheke Island and we have an opportunity for a Social Researcher to join our small professional team to be a part of this unique and exciting project.
The purpose of the Social Research role is to create, manage and deliver social research for the Te Korowai o Waiheke pest eradication programmes. This is an opportunity to work on a world leading community conservation project.

What are we looking for?
3 years social research experience, designing, running, analysing and reporting qualitative and quantitative research.
Enjoy people - being a positive and motivated team player with proven experience of priority setting over a programme of work to meet timelines and budget.
You will produce robust and useful outputs, translating survey results into useable management advice.
You will have an understanding of the application of statistical methods and modelling in the design of research programmes, analysis and interpretation of results.
You'll enjoy providing advice to the team and our external stakeholders about best practice in research management.
You'll be strong in communication, both written and verbal skills.
Strong attention to detail, with a methodical and consistent manner.
Competent in Word, Excel , PowerPoint
Qualifications and other requirements
Ideally a post graduate qualification in Social Science Research or an undergraduate qualification combined with relevant social science experience.
Use qualitative data analysis software eg NVivo or similar
A full clean driver’s licence is essential.
Either NZ resident, or NZ citizenship or a long-term work visa is required
The Job in Brief
Social Research Design
Prepare a social research plan for the Technical Advisory Group to provide feedback on and the Te Korowai o Waiheke Trust board to approve.
Design research to get feedback from permanent residents, part-time residents, large landowners, businesses, youth and on and off island boaties.
Conducting Social Research
Recruit social research participants from nine different market segments on Waiheke Island.
Pre-plan the logistics for all focus groups and interviews including organising venues, incentives, refreshments
Create a detailed run sheet outlining key themes and facilitate all focus groups.
Work with key stakeholders to ensure a wide spread of participants included in the research.
Ensure response rates for each of the market segments are statistically valid.
Prepare and administer quantitative surveys as required
Ensure all research is conducted in accordance with human research ethics protocols (e.g., The Association of Social Science Research).
Write Technical reports summarising the results of all social research conducted.
Planning for island-wide rat eradication
Work with the Rat Operations Manager to ensure social research is interspersed with rat operational trials planned and is focused on the questions that need to be answered for island-wide rat eradication.
Review all social research done to date and track against key questions that need to be answered for island-wide rat eradication.
Contribute to the economic impact report being conducted for island-wide rat eradication.
Work collaboratively and positively with others
Listen to ideas and requests, and endeavour to use information to support the eradication programme outcomes.
When required assist with Te Korowai communications, promotions and education programmes with the public in conjunction with the Te Korowai team.
Lead by example and promote a positive, safe and enjoyable working environment that respects the standards set by Te Korowai o Waiheke and respects the rights of landowners/tenants and other project partners.
This opportunity is a fixed-term full-time role, reporting to the Project Director, based on Waiheke Island. The fixed term contract will conclude in June 2026.
