Waiheke Collective's Pestival Festival — Professor Margaret Stanley Talk

For an interactive and family-friendly day out head to the Waiheke Collective’s Pestival Festival Day at Piritahi Marae on Saturday 21 August. Celebrating ecological wins and Waiheke’s unique biodiversity, the schedule is packed with workshops, speakers, stalls and more.

Among the impressive line-up of speakers is University of Auckland Associate Professor Margaret Stanley. Her teaching focuses on biosecurity and pest management, and her ecological research focuses on how to improve biodiversity outcomes in Aotearoa by reducing the impacts of pests and urban development. 

Margaret will share what best practice pest management looks like, and what makes eradication different from business-as-usual pest control. She’ll explain why the goalposts are different and give some examples of what happens when you don’t invest in monitoring. She a member of the Technical Advisory Group who provide technical guidance to Te Korowai o Waiheke and their eradication programmes.

Te Korowai o Waiheke will also be hosting interactive outdoor workshops on the day, making wax blocks for rat detection and rat trap box making. Food trucks and will be on site and to a face painter to add to the festive spirit of the day.
